The Aegean Coast Of Turkey
The Aegean Coast of Turkey contains fine archaeological sites, beautiful beaches, great scenery with more than 9000 years of history, and a host of towns that are excellent destinations. The Aegean Coast is an area of Turkey you should research, as it is a rich travel destination.
The Aegean Coast possesses some of the most spectacular and significant of Turkey’s archaeological sites with a rich civilizing inheritance from early Greek, Roman and Ottoman civilizations. The antique cities of Ephesus and Troy are permeated with the past, where amphitheatres, chariot-rutted streets and columns reek of historical importance. It was here that St Paul laid the foundations for the beginnings of Christianity, and where the face of legendary beauty, Helen of Troy, ‘launched a thousand ships.
Main access point is Izmir, although Bodrum has a nearby airport well served in the summer and ideal if you’re planning on getting straight on a boat.
When to visit Aegean Coast
The peak tourist season here is July and August, when the hottest temperatures are reached (43°C). Hence, spring and autumn are the best times to visit: the weather is hot but not unbearably so, the flowers are out and the resorts are fairly quiet.
Availability of Transportation
There are frequent flights (about 4hrs in duration) from the UK, plus additional charter flights in high season. Bodrum Airport is 30mins from Bodrum itself; and Dalaman Airport (serviced by easyJet) is 1hr 30mins from Marmaris. The Aegean coast is also easily accessible from Istanbul.
Each year, thousands of visitors come through sea way to the Aegean Coast Region. There are 3 main International Seaports welcoming all types of cruise ships, in the south bound direction namely Izmir, Kusadasi, and Bodrum ports, which are providing all needs of international travelers.
Visit Aegean Coast by Road
The preferred means of transport in Turkey is by coach and the air-conditioned intercity coach services are relaxed. So if you are traveling from one city to another even between the smaller towns, we advise taking the coach or mini bus. Each town has a bus station where each bus company has its own office. You can buy tickets from local travel agencies. Departures are frequent to many cities and you do not need advance reservations most of the time, however in the high season between June and September it is suitable to be careful and make the reservations in advance in order not to face any possible surprises.
